biggest and baddest single specie 150 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As for cichlid species I would have to say Dovii or midas
Wouldn't get a Dovii buddy, a male will defo outgrow a 150g, my guy is 17"-18" and IMO is to big for a 150g right now, he still has a bit growing to do as well I'm hoping for 20"+, there's still tons of cool stuff for a 150g though, but IMO 150g no good for Dovii long term.RD and Midas are cool I like GT's as well

No ones said it, and I've never had one, but I've heard nothing but good things about black nasty's personality, though I've heard they have bloat problems when small. Other than that, an Amphilophus species is a solid choice. If you don't want the "standard" Midas/red devil, some of the other are lyonsi (not as mean as the rest I've been told, time will tell for me), chanco or hogaboomarum. All alittle harder to track down but very pretty.

Trimac pair is another good option!-) If you have the money to get a nice pair, if not maybe Argentea or zonatus?

Midas or red devil are a safe bet for interaction, jags are hit and miss ime, some are nervous some insane...

Black nasty seem interesting to me, its bad that they are hard to find in my region

I know midas have been mentioned, its a testament to how good of a choice they are....here is my old midas solo in my 6x1.5 150.....he was nearly 14.5 inches long......fearless and very interactive......

and if you are thinking about a species pair...my Red tiger motaguense are living comfortably in my 150 currently....always out in the open....

Nice fish you got there

This is a good question, I'll have an empty 150 here soon. I was leaning towards a buttikoferi. I know it's not a S.A. it's an African and will outgrow the tank. But it certainly fits the parameters of the original question. Also a reason to upgrade later on. Good luck

My lfs had a butti a couple weeks ago. He was about 6". They're such cool fish. They get freaken huge though.

I would go for trimac the males can easily hit 15" and imo are very impressive
