If you for certain are only going to have one fish you definitely want something that swims a lot and is interactive. All of the parachromis are very hit and miss in my opinion. A few are interactive but a lot of them hid and just don't swim that much. The ones that people consider interactive mainly just slam the glass which can get annoying. Without dither fish I think you are going to end up with a fish hiding in a pot most of the time.

My first suggestion would be a male Chancho. While not overly colorful they get huge and stocky, and are very aggressive and active. Next would be a fish that everyone loves to hate but honestly nothing is more interactive then and Oscar. It gives you movement, color, and a good size. Plus you would get to see what one that has proper space and clean water can look like. I've have had a couple that pushed 16".

Love em or hate em theres always the flowerhorn option. I think midas is a great suggestion too those guys are impressive as heck when they get big.

Yep, I'd agree. Oscars might as well be a puppy that lives in the water. Mine was in a 125 and pushed 14-15" in about 16-18 months. Didn't appear to be slowing down either, clean water and a good diet does a lot of good for them. Mine would play with ping pong balls, eat anything you throw in the water and was always swimming.

Not exactly unique, but a safe choice, and cool if you've never had one.

My first choice would be a red devil, midas, or midevil. Awesome fish. As many have said you really can't go wrong with them. I've heard good things about black nasties. I saw flowerhorn mentioned, I'm not a big fan of the look but they have great personality.

Tons of great choices mentioned so far. I'd go on YouTube and check them out before you make a decision.

Yeah I feel like you really can't go wrong with any of those guys for looks and personality. Some folks here with more experience keeping them may chime in, but you might be able to do a pair in a 150. Maybe keep a divider handy just incase though.

Dovii.. It will out grow the 150 eventuall but they are bad ass and will give you a good excuse to upgrade to a bigger tank.
