Biggest Bamboo shrimp ever.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think it is a bit bigger than three inches. when i took the pic w/ the ruler it was about 4 or 5 inches back so it makes it look smaller than it is. but that thing is huge. biggest one i have ever seen by far.

nice job...do those clean your tank at all?
from what i have read and my experience they just filter stuff out of the water and if they cant get enough that way then they pick left over foods off the sub. and plants :)

Make sure it can't escape. If they aren't fed well enough they will go looking for food, and if there's any hole they can get out of, they probably will. I have had three escapes, one withing a few days and the other two after a few months.

I can't in any way back up my hypothesis that this is a food seeking behaviour, but that is what seems to make them move around the most.

I saw one that size but passed on him (frankly one that size scared me) and got one closer to the size of the one I already had. He passed away though, not really sure there. If I have my sexing down right, you might have yourself a male. I THINK I had 2 females, now I am back down to the one.

Nice find tho! And yes, they are very very peaceful little critters, mine has never harmed any of my fish, just swims around sometimes and spooks them. When not using his filters he folds them up and it looks like (s)he is praying. Most of the time he can be found near the bubbles filter feeding. They like a bit of a current, it helps them filter food so keep that in mind. Now I want another one.

Maybe if your dad sees it won't hurt your fish he may want one for his. Not trying to hyjack the thread but here are the two I had
the one that is more red and slightly larger is the one I lost. Looks like they both want the same algae tablet.

there is NO way for it to escape, i have my tank Ropefish proofed :) i even have a wire mesh over the filter outflow b/c once my rope decided he wanted to swim up it and push the top off. luckily i was sitting right there watching lol
