I vote midas I have two F1 barred midas and they both flare. Even the smallest one at 3.5 inch ( see below )

I know people do like hybrids but I actually have an opportunity to get some baby jag x dovii which could be cool but let me know what you guys think on that? Otherwise I guess I'll be getting an amph
also if u can get a bigger tank down the road look up mangrove jack red snapper.
these arent cichlids but theyre aus native and super awesome fish. they can be
glass bangers and very predatory. i had one that was a glass banger and aggressively
stalked prey (food) when i fed it. not to mention it always came up to the tank
when i approached and begged for food like a dog.

Most male ca cichlids will get plenty of attitude as they get older, even my 3 year old vieja bifasciatus will glass bang. Alot comes down to the age of the fish, having said that ime Nandopsis haitiensis are the most consistent mentalists
Oh ok, yeah haitiensis is another that's not in Australia ;( . Btw in the above post I mean most people DON'T like hybrids not do. Lol.
yup, awesome fish waiting for them to come back into season which is coming
soon in a few months. then a bunch should be imported in from aus.
