owning a tropical gar i would hope i could id one. also that would probably be a world record trop. i have never heard of one reaching that size. they max out in the wild around 3-3.5 feet. usually much smaller in aquaria.
 
i have t gars too...i know what you're saying with the size though. same thing with bichirs...i would say that the congicus in the pic is about 30"+, and those gars look to be about same size....
 
I think you should take into account that your reference for size is a couple of asian people. We are not known to be the largest of people. Just sayin.
 
how many people here own a congicus? im hoping my female endlicheri gets a decent size, i remember seeing pictures on some japanese website with some endlicheri endlicheri at around 2'
