Hey guys, not exactly bigging up my goonch but - is it normal for it to shed its outer layer every once in awhile? Am I right to assume it's part of its growth? Thanks

Ironic that you'd pick a guy who knows nothing about goonches, having never had one and having been disheartened by their high die-off rate and a lack of positive ID in the genus. IMHO, the genus needs a LOT of taxonomic attention. Until then, we'll wonder in a dark room, so to speak. Alexkoj - posit your question in the Catfish section, I suggest.

Yes, that's normal for a goonch. What it is or why it happens, I can't say.

Dr. Ng, the esteemed Silurus from Planet Catfish, is (or at least was) working on a revision.

Lovely! I wish my irwini were so outgoing. This is a gem. Both the fish and the tank. Great, great job, Justin!

Cheers pal, I must say since going less aggressive in there I'm so much happier and less stressed about this tank. Very happy with it after nearly giving up on the 300. May even get a bigger tank when we move next year!-)
