if anyone ever tries to sell you a bio-wheel filter never buy it. bio-wheels are the biggest waste of money in the fish business, especially with saltwater.

bio-wheel's do mostly nothing to help with your biological filtration. the fiber used in them harbor almost nothing. and with saltwater tanks the salt's and proteins clog the bio-wheel fiber. most salt tanks crash if this is their only bio filtration. the ones that don't are tanks with rock that harbor their own bio bacteria

it would take a bio-wheel 2' long and 1' wide to even help your tank in anyway. you would be better off just buying a soft coarse piece of foam an sticking it on your intake of your filter

it also helps to have water agitation and an air source. buy use an air stone. this may also give your tank unwanted algae. but contrary to most beliefs, algae is good it helps keep your tank in check and some fish eat it.

now i am not saying you have to get rid of your filter or live rock. or even try to purposefully grow algae in your tank. i posted this to give you guys some info of this rip-off of the fish world

Yeah. Apparently, plastic army men from the little kid's toy section in toy stores harbor more beneficial bacteria than bio balls.

You posted a bunch of statements with basically no evidence to support them. :screwy:

well most people who have owned stores for more than 20 years could tell you that. i have a friend that his father owned a store for 50 years, he was one of the first people to keep cichlids. so i would take his word over most people. search on line, if you talk to people that now what they are talking about. they would say the same

and to test that, buy two filters. put a bio-wheel on one and a foam filter on the other. see who wins. then you will have some facts:irked:

So the tanks I have filtered by nothing except a bio-wheel filter with perfect water conditions are a complete fluke. And the thousands of people over the years that use them are just mindless sheep to what? A government conspiracy. First they put flouride into airliner contrails and now bio-wheels to turn our fish against us. Perhaps a little more evidence to back up your statement than some guy you know says it's gospel. A little more proof and maybe this can be an intelligent discussion instead of the bashfest sure to ensue before closure.

:screwy: You have provided no useful info whatsoever. I have 5 tanks that completely disprove all you are saying.

Please post link that back up what you are saying.

I have a feeling this thread will end badly:popcorn:

You need to establish the parameters of this test a little more thoroughly. Two identical filters? Not designed to work the same way. Two different filters? Proves which one filters better. Do we put them in a tank or sit them on the table to judge which is prettiest? Same tank? Different tanks? Exact same size, age, stocking, feeding and maintenance schedules or haphazardness testing? You are still throwing out statements and demanding they are believed without any proof.
