Bioactive Vivarium - Gargoyle Gecko

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ahh I love the gargoyle geckos, satanic leaf geckos, and crested I'm sure there are a couple that I missed. That door is sweeeeeet! Do they make them for other size tanks? I was thinking 40b?
Tank looks killer too!
I had that same question, this is what I found.

Beautiful job on the decor, how is Nino enjoying the new digs?
Thanks, he seems like a happy little lizard!

Lovely stuff! I will show this to my brother, he also has big plans in mind for his geckos. Mind sharing some of the plants and so on? I need to start planning for my little crestie, only a few months old so plenty of time :D

Nino is a stunner by the way!
Thanks I agree I am very happy with him. Hoping to get him some real nice girlfriends in a few months too. The plants I used in this setup are Spider plants, begonia rex, peperomia caperata "green", alsobia daniflora, and mini fittonia white nerve plants. And the upper reaches have a bunch of random bromeliads and some tillandsia air plants. I got most of my plants on a site called Josh's frogs, they have a bunch of info there and also on dendroboard (meant for dart frogs) on what kind of plants do well in the humid vivariums. One thing to note is that the geckos weigh alot more than frogs, and the spider plants in here tend to get pretty trampled. So, thick stems are much better to use, plants like Croton are perfect.

Thanks, I agree the geckos are super cool. And yes they make a bunch of sizes, next up I plan to do a 40 breeder so there is room for this guy to live with his future girlfriends.

Update on this guy after a long time, I built him his permanent enclosure from a 45g tall, stood on it's side with a door kit. I used the door for a 20 long and added another piece of acrylic for the extra height. Used some natural wood and some of the reptile vines to make structures for him to climb, and kept planting pretty light for ease of maintenance. I didn't make this one bioactive, it was cool to have one like that but I didn't want to go that route again, since this tank is in my bedroom and the bioactive ones have a very... earthy smell to them.
Here he is in his new digs
