nice fish!! well i think you have yourself a nice P.Lapredei. it is part of the lower jaw species, so it is going to get BIG. if i am not mistaken they can get up to 30" or so... i have no personal expierence with this type. feedding is the same though for all bichirs. as Anne said, when they get bigger you can cut the portions to fit their size.

how big is it now? anyways here is some pics from the net of a P.Lapredei.
they can have faint banding like the last two pics show.

Actually 18+ inches is normal in home aquaria-Anne
 
i feed my p.senegal frozen bloodworms and omega floating cichlid pelets they wont eat beefheart for some reason
 
those pictures diffinatly look like him! he's about 18" now. he over doubled his size in side a year but doesn't seem to have got that much bigger recently so maybe he's fully grown!? thanks for the help all. :thumbsup: am i right in thinking mine is male and that you sex them by the size of their anal fin?

i feed my smaller bichirs shrimp pellets krill and bloodworms and my larger ornate gets lancefish and krill
 
I feed mine on fish fillets but never beef or pork coz they wun get to eat these in the wild also.
Weekly feeders is also on my menu.

Faded stripes may be unstable or becoz of surroundings.
 
I feed my ornate and my albino palmas sinking carnivore pellets frozen beef heart, brine shrimp and blood worms, the ornate love sthe beef heart!
