hey guys/girls. this might sound like a stupid question but....

anyways, the reason that i'm not allowed to get a bird is because they stink (according to my parents anyways). so, i was thinking, if you put a fan in the tank for ventiltion, and used a screen top, couldn't you keep a bird in an aquarium or terrarium? it would give better visibility, and would likely leave the bird more room to hop around.

any opinions are appreciated

Not a bird expert. But I can't imagine a single species of bird that would enjoy that. Every bird I've known makes full use of the climbing space from the cage bars. On top of that. in an aquarium you're looking at more lateral space, I think most bird cages are designed for vertical space as birds like to be up high (they have wings for a reason)
Perhaps if you didn't want an open type of enclosure you could built a nice tall flight enclosure with branches and climbing space, and toys and all sorts of stuff, but the "bird in an aquarium" idea doesn't sound very good at all.

Airflow which I consider important when talking birds would be very limited. No way I would ever keep one in an aquarium, besides I don't see as that being the answer the problem with your parents. I say no bird unless you can get them to live with one in a normal cage.

The bird would not enjoy banging its beak against the glass thats for sure.

i wasn't really planning on doing this. i was more or less curious about whether or not this would work. i didn't think that it was that good of an idea either, but i just wanted other people's opinions

Get a pair of these Button Quails

Here's a pair I just picked up this past weekend:headbang2

Right now they're in with my society finches, the cage is 30" T x 24" W x 18" D. These are ground dwelling birds so they will pickup any seeds that other birds drop on the ground. You can say these birds are somewhat like miniature chickens:ROFL:

I would guess 20 or 29g would be fine for a pair.

As JD_MAN can attest, you can keep a bird in your sump.

birds dont stink. my mom has 10 zebra finches and they dont smell at all. my moms birds tend to run into mirrors and glass. so bad idea.
