If the fish/animal does not let go you could add a tranq. to the water. Just be sure not to overdose the animal. Heres a link...

The Company's name is SURE-LIFE and the product was called TRANQUIL.

that is not a good idea, that is not the purpose of tranquilizer and it can be lethal of the animal even if done in a safe dose, depending on the animal there are much safer methods that dont involve putting it do sleep every time it say bites.

even if you add it to the water, oops! its jsut got dilulted by the ocean!

I was thinking about if a fish locked down on him. I couldnt think of any other methods, what you got?

4. now, if we do solicit a bite from an animal like the wolf fish, anyone have an insight about how we get it to let go?

depends on the fish, the biggest mistake people make is panicing and trying to pulling away.

true....he asked about a wolf fish.... ^

I think it was a pretty good idea about the TRANQUIL... I haven't heard any better suggestions yet :D I know if I dose with my pond Melafix after a feeding any fish that swims through it before it gets dilluted too much throws up his food. They then procede to grab it back after a few seconds but it would probablly work.
