BITES!

I've been bitten by dovii a number of times, but no comparison to, (not a bite), but a sting from a young stingray, I couldn't see.
It was buried in the sand, in about knee deep water near my home. Went straight to the bone, and filled my shoe with blood
Had to pour "almost" boiling water on it to neutralize the toxin, and get rid of the membrane. Hurt slightly for a few months

puffer in the azores for me! Even though it was only like 2-3 inches long it took a big bite out of my thumb! It got it infected as well though that cold have been me. Also after striper fishing i get striper thumb as well. Its just when the rough pads in their mouth rub off your skin

I don’t even wanna think about being bitten by a puffer. I’d take a pacu over that. Do coral stings count as bites? Been stung by a torch, nothing painful, just a tingling feeling in my finger for a few hours.

Personally I'd take the puffer over the pacu any day. With a puffer it's going to be a very quick and clean chunk taken out with very minimal effort on its part. A pacu on the other hand has crushing teeth instead of the puffers sharp, scissor like, beak. So if a pacu were to grab ahold of ya there would be a crunch/crush followed up by a ton of head thrashing and finally a large bloody mangled chunk will be missing. Sure a puffer would hurt like a B**** but in the end the pain from the puffer would be nothing in comparison to the pacu.

Now as for my personal stories. The worst injury I got from a fish had to be the bullhead incident. I was fishing on the dock fishing and I caught a bullhead, roughly 8in, so I got it off of the hook and went to throw it back just to have him swing around mid air and spined me in the side of my knuckle all the way down to the bone. Least to say that ached and throbbed for about 4-5 hours afterwards.

Now as for the worst bite I got from a fish I would say it was my late FH Jr.. Jr. was a mean fish even for a FlowerHorn. Everytime I stuck my hand in the tank he would draw blood. Granted I eventually learned how to deal with it, just ball your hand into a fist and let em bite, when your skin is taunt then no matter how much the fish bite and thrashes it it would draw blood.

Lol now I will say that this works on FH's and other fish like em but I would trust the trick for something like a vampire tetra, piranha or wolf fish, etc. Basically anything that has too many and or too big and or too sharp of teeth.

Good point on the pacu. I’ve seen firsthand what one can do to a fish. Had a really chewed up peacock eel (survived) because of one. Only thing is a pacu does it out of hunger, I think a puffer would enjoy it ?
Either way I don’t want to go near either of their mouths.

As for cichlids I’m just happy mine aren’t at the attack me point yet, but I’ll definitely use the closed fist method when they do.

if youve ever seen rivermonsters, well one episode with a pacu.... It wasnt pretty. I know the stuff on the show sometimes isnt real and is highly exaggerated, but i googled this one and it was real... Lets just say the pacu thought someones male body part was a nut....

Lol idky but that reminds me of this video I watched a few years back about this tourist getting bitten by a porcupine puffer and she thought was was going to die because she heard they were toxic. She just got poison and venom mixed around is all, seems like a really common mistake for most ppl. Yeah all puffers are toxic, some more so then others, but it's only toxic if it's prepared the wrong way.
