Somewere in the world
Alright, so ive got a job working at my LFS, and id have to say i love it.. good pay.. good hours, really nice people... but id also like to say it has its bad and annoying times.

One of my jobs is to kill... yes kill mortally ill fish... pick them up and throw them against something hard. Sucks, but ive got to make money somehow.... i get really sad on some of the bigger fish (bichirs, oscars etc.)

Just thought id share, theres always the hard side of business:cry:

wow...ive never worked in a pet shop but that seems quite inhumane...

I would be willing to bet that especially where you live that kind of practice is not legal. I would think they would require a more humane method.

Get some clove oil or at least sever the head off, throwing them against a wall is just wrong. I know your just doing what your told but bring it up to your boss and see about getting clove oil, then you can just put them in a bucket with some water and add the clove oil till they pass and leave them there for a while so you know there dead, it's much more humane and you wont feel so bad doing it.

Um.

I'll tell you right now, I have never EVER heard of a pet store doing that, and it may not even be legal for them to ask their employees to do that.

soak it alive in boiling water,,thats faster and cheaper....well its still inhumane but it is faster

i know petcos dont kill mortally ill fish. well atleast my local one
theyve got a convict that is maybe 80 % covered with ick, you can barely see his colors
that fish needs to be spared or something

Lol, what the hell. My lfs has "hospital" tanks for their sick fish, even for the feeders, lol. They try to take care of any sick and wounded fish. If a customer points one out, the worker will catch the fish and put it in one of the hospital tanks with melafix to try to heal it. They never smash fish against walls, lol.
