Black Aro not eating

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my arowana ate the first day and is a real pig. my florida gar took about 2.5 weeks. give it time. he sounds like he's stressed out, swimming near the bottom and all . . .give him time to get used to his new tank.

give him time to adjust to its new tank. and then start feeding him.
take out any uneaten food

try turning off the lights, drop some food and walk away. come back in a few minutes and see if the food is gone. sometimes your face all up on the tank will scare new fish from eating haha

The lights havve not been on in the tanks since I got him and the lights in the room have been pretty much off. I dropped a cube of frozen blood worms and he has ate a few. Thank God!

x2, i thought you said you researched, if you did why the HECK are you feeding sinking foods to a new top dweller????:screwy:

I agree with your point, Gshock but i think that we have to give him the benefit of the doubt. He stated that he fed some freeze dried foods, which float. I also think that he probably got a bit desperate and decided to feed various items that float and sink. It sounds to me like he was just trying different things. We all know that arowana are top feeders and we understand that new arowana are more likely to eat only floating foods, but we also know that once an arowana becomes comfortable with his home, he will eat floating and sinkng foods. My arowana now eats both. We're here to help . . . Right?

Sorry guys I wasn't feeding the sinking food to him. I just remember reading that they will eat that stuff when it's thrown in. That food was for the rays. The food that I had that was just for him was the pellets and krill. Like philly stated I got desperate hoping he'd eat some of the worms. So far he's only ate the blood worms since the first day I got him and he had at 2 ghost shrimp.

So he's been eating black and blood worms pretty well. He won't take anything that floats to the top though. I've tried pellets, krill and crickets. Doesn't even look at the them. Any ideas?

Stop feeding the blood and black worms, he can only eat what you put into the tank. If you don't get it eating pellets now, it is likely it never will.
