black arow

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You shouldn't get an arowana and then ship it to someone when it gets too large for you to handle. The bigger the fish, the rougher shipping is on them. I wouldn't buy a 20" black arowana off the internet, unless the guy gave a refund when the dead fish showed up to my house.

On a side point, they do grow extremely slowly. Mine is getting close to that size, I barely notice him growing at all these days.

Once it got too big you could always buy one of those cheap 300 gallon pools (or rubbermaids) and keep it in there until you upgraded. They're round so there's plenty of turning space.
Great advise

only a year :( i was hoping 18+ months
im not going to be able to upgrade, is it worth it to do it for just a while?
If you live at home and can't even provide it with a tank that size then you probably shouldn't get it at all, unless you're comfortable with the idea of selling it BEFORE it gets too big for the tank, even if that means making a loss.

but in a stretch, it should work better than a 125g tank that is only 18" wide.
If the fish is too long for an 18" wide tank then how do you think its going to be better off in a tank thats only 4' long?

ok well it might not even happen kuz now i might end up with a 48"x18" footprint, and 39" tall
Thats about the most stupid shaped tank you could get unless you're planning on setting up a specific angel fish tank...

on the other hand if you can get your parents to let you get a big tub and put it inside (unless you can get a 5 foot deep one and put it in ground outside)

a black arow would be perfect......... just remember for jumping! :)
haha i wish!
i just gotta wait till i can have a fish room
then i can set up something monster like a 360
the only option at this point is to buy it small, keep it to 20" and then take a loss selling it to a local pet store

If you tried to sell it before it got too big, and waited long enough, you could probably find someone private to buy it near you. Someone just drove from Vegas to Orange County to buy two of my fish. Selling it to a pet store would be a huge loss and most won't treat it with the respect it will need at that size. Hell, in two years I'll buy it off you. :nilly:

haha that sound familiar......... who are you talking about?????

o wait.......... ME!

luckily Silver (which i named him) was sold....... hopefully to a good home........

i think you would be better off staying away from the black arrow untill you can keep it in the appropriate sized tank. why don't you look into other species of fish like cichlids or pirahnas, then you wont have to worry about upgrading in the future.
good luck

hmm just keep it in da tank as growout and get bigger tank
