The only person I know of on this site that has actual experience and proof to back up what he says is Brian. May want to check him out about growths of aros.

Why do you say that they shouldve gotten a lot bigger? That is about average growth, if not above average for captive arowana.
All this crap about fish staying smaller in captivity is just a cover up for the fact that you don't provide adequate space. No reason why a fish in captivity doesn't reach the same sizes they do in the wild...

A lot of claims of three foot plus silver and black aros, yet you really don't see many people posting proof of such. For the most part, I haven't seen many people posting silvers over 30" or blacks over 24".

As for mine, my two silvers are 5.5-6 years old and 29-30". They grew rather quickly up to 24-25" and then the grow has slowed drastically since.

My two blacks, one is 26-27" and going on 5 years old, was a slow grower but not a very aggressive feeder. My youngest black is 25-26" and only 21 months old.

It may get as long but will only have half the girth of a silver of equal length.

totally out of context from the thread.. but..How does one even measure these fish.. i usually line up a measuring tape in front of the tank..and when they slow down i just calculate.. give or take 1/2 inch.. i seriously dont think i can rest them on a towel and do the measuring stuff like some pics i've seen.. i think one was a video where arapaimag was getting people to move his fish and the other i think some above ground ply pond in hawaii with 12 blacks and some jars.. why bother even measuring :) as long as they keep getting monster size(and can provide more than adequate housing) thats enough.. and like how brian said.. claims but not evidence of the actual fish.. i feel like how many people even have aros.. for all the activity in the forum.. the sticky about tank size should be full but its like super slow.. :)

You should talk to some of the scientists in the gar forum so they can go over some of the "crap" with you.

Secondly, saying every arowana will reach 47" like the world record is like saying every human will grow to be 8' 11" like Robert Wadlow.
