black banded shark question

A 180 will definitely fit there :). There are a lot of cool fish that do well in a 125. I don't think a shark that grows to 24"+ is one of them. The extra 3 square feet that you get with a 180 (6'x2') vs. a 150 or 125 (6'x1.5') really does make a big difference.

When I was in college, a buddy of mine hatched one from an egg and kept it in a 125. It did great for awhile, but eventually died as it outgrew the tank.

buget but not the room, now im thinking about getting a 125 because the only diffrence is the height, im gong by this http://freshaquarium.about.com/od/aquariumsandstands/a/tanksizesweights.htm
I dont have room for a 24" depth or anything longer than a 72 inch

this is the area I want to put the tank in

Well im thinking of something diffrent now. How easy or difficult is it selling these sharks once they out grown there tanks? How long would a black banded be okay for in a 55 gal. long? Im now thinking of buying an egg and keeping it in a 55 untill it outgrows it then sell it and keep doing that. You tell me, is this option a possibility? Grow, sell, grow, sell?

get a marble or a catshark bro. Don't mess around with brown banded they get 4ft.

marble or coral cat could live in a 180-220 for life with good foot print. They would last a while in the 125, and still get 24 inches.

idk if you don't have at least a 6'x2' footprint now I'd say forget about a shark and start with something smaller. even at a 6'x2' footprint you'd be pushign it with a coral or marble catshark. there are plenty of cool looking saltwater fish that will fit in a 55g. even more for a125g. start with some other fish and then when you've got room and money for a larger tank go with shark.

Don't catsharks need coldwater? I've seen people catch them off the coast here in Cali and the water is pretty cold, or it's something similar?

It depends on the genus of catsharks. True most true catsharks, tend to be cool water species. However Coral & Marbled Catsharks (Genus Atelomycterus) are tropical catsharks.

I agree that anything less than a 180 gallon (6'x2') would only be good for bamboo or catshark for a few months, maybe a year at most.

A 125 gallon would be better for a small predator tank - with an Eel, smalll Angel, small trigger, or Lionfish.

Like most posted, a 180-220 would be good for coral cats or marbled cats. Bamboos will out grow even the common 500 gallon glass tanks.
