Anyone out there who has a black devil catfish/mystus wickii? Read articles on the net and in books claiming that this catfish is extremely powerful, aggressive, and completely fearless of man... And should be kept by itself, without any tankmates whatsoever. Comments, anyone?

Sounds about right. One of the only fish I've seen that seems to kill for fun.

Many fish are not meant for general aquaria. This is one of them.

 This is a real DEVIL Keep OUT:shakehead

This is a really aggressive catfish. it doesn't go round looking for fights, no fish does, it just wants the tank to itself and if they have to chase something 24/7 to kill it or get rid of it then, they will! They are extremely territorial, and i have only heard of possibly a couple of occasions where a bog standard pleco has been kept with one. They are black with a white edge to the Dorsal and tail fins with most of the time white whiskers.

By no means trust this catfish with your hands! I have been told by my boss that he went to a wholesalers (Neil Hardy's) and as he was leaning on a Vat he realised this big black monster fish was rising from the depths to attempt to eat him or take him under!!! lol Said it had to be 30 inch plus!!

I have heard about possibly getting these in britain, I tried myself, but they worked out about £80 trade for a 8 inch individual!! But I don't know what current prices would be or who would volunteer to get ya one!

This is one of my most favourite fish because of the attitude and look of the Beast. I would love a big 8x3x3 with one of these in, a MAHOOSIVE one!!
A True Monster Fish

Good luck if ya get one lol show the pics.

Our LFS has had 3 of them for over a year now. No one will purchase them as they are in solitary tanks, are coal black, don't move, and are otherwise bastard agressive.

They are in Winnipeg, Canada

Anyone in the Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, North or South Dakota or Minnesota area want them? I'm sure we could arrange something. The shop is about ready to give them away to get their tanks back.

my lfs has them and in with other fish (malawi haps) there around the 8inch mark and £40each,
there are 2 of them, they must have been there around 3 -4 months and look like they have stayed the same size,?.

just feed them the min they need to live on, with blood worm:WHOA:

do these do ok with otherfish as logn as they're not bottom dwellers or do they kill anyhting in thewater? these are some beautiful fish and id liek to keep them someday.

some say NO tank mates.

and I'v seen people have them In a tank with other Cats/Cic (not full grown though but still big)

I think they are the Jag of the catfish world, you don't no what they will be like till you get your 1.
