Agreed, get rid of that carpet. I would actually advise using a mixture of topsoil and playsand though. It is much more natural, can hold a burrow, and looks nice. You won't have any issues with impaction as long as the animal has enough heat and is well hydrated.

My Uromastyx philbyi has been living on it. Just find something that is organic, but with no manure. Look at the label for whats in it, don't just look at whats printed on the front.
