Black frontosa?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would say at most $100 but you could probably get it for 50 or 60 considering it is in a tiny tank and stressed out.

If it's a true Zarie blue I have heard as much as $150-$200 lucky for me I got mine on a trade.

That's a Burundi I'd say 40 to 80 is a fair price I bred frontosa for years he's just stressed and if he's not the dominant fish in the tank and he's with other frontosas he could stay that color until the dominant fish is taken out or he becomes the dominant fish or there is something wrong with water chemistry but its nothing that can't be fixed aside from looking a little stressed he looks healthy

Hello, I am new to this site. I've had the same 5 Frontosa's for 15 yrs. Some other fronts have come and gone over the yrs. The most I've had at one time is 8 (plus fry) as I only have a 120g. My male has been almost black since he hit breeding age. He has bred, but I let nature take it's course and most are eaten through out the years. None of his fry have ever left my tank. He has 6 stripes on one side and 7 on the other. I think he's beautiful. He's housed with Burundi females as that is what I was told he was. I'd post a picture of him but I am on my iPhone and I don't know how. I don't believe he's stressed as he has had a pretty easy going life. Water p's all good and nitrates never more than 30ppm before water change. Also lots of hiding places and high quality food. Variety of foods as well. Lately I've added peacocks. He comes out of his cave more to check things out but remains almost totally black most of the time. His fins a midnight blue. I can't speak for that front obviously. I know they are skitterish fish and in a pet store they usually don't have places to hide so I can see stress being an issue, but with my "Goliath" I thinks it's arrogance. :) However, I totally agree with the gravel. Blah!

Could be stress, but not necessarily. Fronts change their color with mood, lighting, etc. and sometimes going all dark shows dominance or means he thinks he's bad.

I'd pay up to maybe $65, given the conditions the fish is being kept under. You should dedicate a forum to the rehab of this fish along with pictures, so people can respect the benefits of good husbandry!

I don't think stress. I have a bumblebee cichlid that is almost black. He is not stressed at all. Look at surroundings. Is it dark? Is the background dark? Is there a female/other male in the next tank? Does it's tank have goofy rainbow gravel?
