48 hrs from perfect health to death, only thing i can think it may of been is velvet :(
Velvet looks very similar to ich. ;) You didn't mention any parasites on the body. (?)
I've treated Velvet before, and I've never lost a fish from it in two days.

i dont even know what to do with the fish, i setup my 5 gallon hospital tank by taking 5g water out of the tank it was in, moved it to the hospital , it started jumping like mad and a few min later it just... died

when i first got my BGK i was told to keep the tank at 82, this is mostly because its harder for diseases to live and spread at this temp, and from what ive read this is probably the highest you want it to be at so i keep mine at 81 just for the safe feeling of protection somewhat although if ich got in it would spread fast, but with weekly water changes some* aquarium salt in the water and proper care you shouldnt have problems with them...dont give up on them if you get one again youll get really attatched to it and love it to death

I lost my first ghost and the 5 rams that came with it a couple weeks ago. All were very young. I really thought they were from a bad batch but fish store's stock they came with all still kicking. Tank parameters very similar to yours...78 temp fully cycled, no visible ailments just poof gone in about 48 hr period.

other fish were fine (gouramis, swordtails). I added an air stone and lowered the tank water 2 degrees thinking there wasn't enough o2. hospital tank seemed to kick off 2 rams quicker...

damn freshwater mystery diseases...thinking about a UV sterilizer. maybe that will help you?
