Black Ghost Knife

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If that's the only cover it has then yes. Other than that, it may be attracted to the electricity emitting from it. You might want to check that out.

anyone here the old folklore about how BGK's are called ghost knifes because they are inhabited by the spirits of the dead. thought it was a cool little history note.

yeah, i read about that. very weird how the human mind works sometimes. along that same, strange note, i remember hearing a story about how mermaid sightings by sailors were actually manatees. now, i've personally never found manatees very attractive, but to each their own i guess...

i just thought it was a cool little folklore thing i just lost my father earlyer this month and thought it would be a good fish for my tank maybe the tribes people were right and he is swimmin in there right now lol

i'm really sorry for your loss.

anything is possible. i truly believe that...

i currently have my BGK housed in a 100 gallon tank along with some clown loaches, silver dollars, and parrot fishes...and of them all, he is the most friendliest. i remember the second day i had him he was eating a cube of tubifex from my hand. i lost an uncle a couple months ago and he loved to drink and smoke, but there's no way in hell i'm going to pour any beer in my tank, so he's outta luck.

lol yea my bgk ate blood worms from my hand and out of a shot glass i was holding already. my dad didnt drink or smoke but he was definitly friendly. i got a jewel cichlid a columbian shark a red tail shark and some retarted mollies that my wife wanted in there they all get along well.

I wonder the same. Mine grows pretty slow too even tho he eats a lot of different stuff - bloodworms, mysis, brine, tubifex, earthworm from time to time, etc.

Anyone know if it'd really be bad to keep it in a 36x18x24 65gallon permanently? I'd think it should be ok

I had this quetion earlier and read a lot into it. Its really too short...as the BGK pushes 10+ inches they can hardly even get going before they have to stop and turn around in a 3ft...not enough excercise/swimming space. Mine bombs across the length of my 6ft tank all the time.
3ft long tank limits the fish you can so much that its not even worth it if you want somewhat serious fish. I had bought a brand new 65g with the plan being clown loaches for a bit, but the BGK and denison barbs permanently (already owned all them in a 125 but i'm moving to an apt and can't have a 6ft tank, so the 3ft seemed perfect). I got halfway thru building a nice stand when i started to realize that the BGK and denisons were going to be very restricted by the 3ft and that 4 would be MUCH better. Ended up buying a nice 4ft 90g on c-list the other day that is perfect.

Just tossing in my 2cents. Amazing fish, fun to watch under the led's after the sun sets. Unfortunately I joined the forum shortly after I purchased my TWO BGK's from a LFS. Honestly I am a bit pissed that he actually sold me two. He is familiar with my tanks and the inhabitants. Honestly so far they have not damaged each other and actually swim together quite a bit and show no aggression, but I realize that will change as they grow and plan on removing one in the near future. Say it again! Great fish!
