Black or Silver?

Are there any specific cichlids that you would recommend? Like ones with green, blue, and/or red coloration.

Green Terrors, Oscars, Jaguar Cichlids, Jack Dempsey's, Electric Blue Jack Dempsey's, I've even seen Discus but I don't think I would try it. Blood Parrots, Red Devils, Flower-horns, Fire Mouths. You have tons of options! Also larger knifes work well like BGK's and CKF. I have seen tons of tanks with Arowanas and Gars however as they mature issues could occur so if you do go this route watch out for fights and be ready to remove one. But I also have seen plenty of tanks were they get long fine with out any problems.

This one of my favorite tanks on YouTube. Something like this would be awesome but expensive!

Depending on the aro you could even go with discus or angelfish.

I actually think large discus would be better tankmates than some of the cichlids you suggested due to the aggression. I've never kept them but I understand flowerhorns can be very aggressive, red devils and jags could be too depending on the size difference between the aro and the cichlids (in a big tank with a big aro it should work ok though, should...).

Ponddigger, Geophagus (larger species like altifrons or winemillerii etc) would be my personal favourites for keeping with a black aro, they occupy a different level of the tank, are active, colourful and fairly peaceful, will help clean up uneaten food, and are from similar habitats in the wild. I may be slightly biased though...

Do black aros still get drop eye?
