Dont mind my homemade canopy I stained it yesterday haha.

Here is 80 or 100 pounds [i forgot if I did 4 or 5 bags] of black tahitian moon sand in a 125.

i had black on white sand and it washed the fishes colors out and switched to black on black and i love it the fish look way better and you dont see as much **** on the ground. but you should invest in some decent lights because it darkens the tank up quite a bit. go black on black you wont regret it

I voted white because it is what I have along with my black background and am happy with it (pool filter sand). I then was shocked by black sand having more votes, and I saw a few of the pictures with the tanks with black on black and changed my mind. I would vote BLACK SAND now. I really like how that looks as opposed to the white (wishing I went black now). Anywho, here are some pics of the 90g black with white-

Sorry, I thought I had more and better full tank shots. The tank has been up for only 5 weeks so most of my pics are of the fish not the setup. The setup still needs a lot of tweaking for me to be happy with it. Likely just a big piece of killer driftwood.

I vote for black sand. The fish will react better to the dark sand. They tend to use the camoflage and blend into similar environment. If it's darker, they're going to contrast and color up darker. Same with light sand...

However, you can do a mix of both, like I did. You get the choice of how much contrast you want. My sand is a mix of 3:2 white to black sand. Dark enough to keep bright colors on the fish and contrast on the plants. Still light enough that it doesn't look like a black hole. Not to mention the lunar lights play off this color well at night!
