I just ordered some Tahitian moon sand. I agree the black does look good. I have a pretty intense light setup so it should keep the tank bright enough. Thanks for the pics, keep them coming.

im using black sand in a 55g but im using black sand blasting sand from nothern tool 50lb bag is 7 bucks...its pretty cheap havent really had a problem.have to keep the filters cleaned out to make sure they run quiet and longer.

try pool filter sand its whiter than play sand you might like it better too, its also crazy cheap

Im going to have to say black, ive always used crushed coral sand and just recently tryed white sand and hate it, it washes the fishes colors out, makes them look dull so im going to be getting either some black sand or a fine grain black gravel.

where do you get tahitan moon sand? i want some black moon sand, and have no idea where to get it.

if you go to northern tool or a local Home depot or something they should have Black sand blasting sand grade 20 i believe.....its about 6-7 dollars for 50lbs and i think is just as nice as the moon sand

Unless you have bright fish like Albinos and/or certain Cichlids, black on black will make them fade into the darkness. I have black sand and had a black backgound. I found that it was hard to see the fish, unless they had some nice color on them. My Jag, RCK, CK, Dats, and Chinese Perch would blend into the darkness. My Albino Oscar, ACK, GT looked great in there. Just something to think about when picking your stock.

Just moved some fish into the tank, without the sand (should be here this weekend depending on the storm) just glass bottom and the fish look much better than they did in the previous tank. I only have about half the bulbs in and their colors really pop. I can't wait to see how it looks with the black substrate.
