Black Parrot fish?

There was somebody posting last week about their "special" black blood parrot haha. Super dark color before fade is a good indicator of a darker color of fade so it's a good sign. I hate yellow faders.

I've always found the darker ones tend to turn yellow.

Really? That's interesting to me. Usually the yellow ones always just kind of faded without darkening up first. Also have observed the earliest faders were always yellow while the ones that faded at 2-3" had a more desirable dark orange or red color.

Is the dark one the most dominant BP in the tank or the lowest ranked?

Many moons ago I saw some very dark BPs in the lfs, almost black. They were labled as 'honey parrots'. I asked why the name and the lfs guy said it's because they turn bright yellow. I didn't really believe him but bought 3 anyway. Sure enough, all three turned yellow.

Usually I see them as the typical blood red parrots at shops such as pets at home, red from a small size; the other "type" I've seen are as you say, black; then fading to bright yellow. I got one from Maidenhead Aquatics of that variety.

From what I've heard, the very small ones that are already red/orange/yellow etc have been hormone treated to make them fade quicker. Baby BPs start off dull brown/green and striped, just like baby midas/devils do and fade the exact same way. It's always best to get them like this as you can be assured they have not been messed with. Plus it's cool to watch them fade. Shops rarely get the unfaded babies in though as people don't want to buy them sadly.

He is most definetly the tank boss

That will explain the late fade and it is normal. Blast them with light and it will influence better color in all of them.
