I have a bare bottom tank but I know some of my fish would love a Sand bottom substrate.
Loaches, Syn catfish, Bichirs, Geos, etc.

I really like the look of black sand but will it fade the color of the fish?

Also If i went with a black substrate, should I also do a black background to match?
Or Could Blue work?

I like the 'brightness' of the blue. But I want everything to match looking clean and professional.

Thoughts?? :grinno:

Change the background to black and black sand will just darken your fish up and not fade your fish. I had geos on black and they looked really good.

Cool! Just don't want my Loaches or Delhezis to fade or darken too much. I've heard so many mixed stories about black sand affecting coloration.

White tends to fade fish, black usually makes them pop. Black on Black is very common but I think blue would look fine.

Awesome! Trying to picture which background would make my community look best.

Kamfa Flowerhorn
Loaches

Porthole
Geos
Bichirs
Angel Fish
Fancy plecos.

All colorful 'Showy' fish. No monsters unfortunately :(

This is my tank. White sand and blue back ground I have had many color fish (peacocks, severums, clown loaches) in there and they looked great. It did wash out my GT and frontosas. I currently have naturally lighter color fish.

What kind of bichirs? Some look better on black while others get worse on black
