I was considering this substrate for my 125 gallon tank and had a few questions. Does anyone use this in their tanks as a substrate? How does it look? Does it change the water properties? Will it be OK with geos? Please post any pics so I could get a better idea of how it will look. Thanks!

I don't use it for the sole reason of its cost. Here it's about $20 for a 20lb bag. For a 125g tank you would need 5-6 bags and that's more than I am willing to spend on sand. From what I understand, it is a fine sand, doesn't affect water properties, and is fine for loaches, sand sifters, etc. It looks great though.

i have it in my 75g. my gymnos didnt seem to mind it. i got a good deal on it and thats the only reason i got some. i wouldnt pay $20 a bag for it. try to find some 3M stuff. its cheaper and just as good

i use it in all my tanks, its really good sand - never lost its colour since i first put it in, but its very hard to wash out and i'd say my water finally went clear after about 6-7 good washes. its quiet costly but well worth it in my opinion. i really like it, it looks really good when its in the tank.

It looks awesome, pain in the butt to wash, but worth it, also worth the $20 a bag cuz once you get past the price you too will realize it is indeed worth price of admission.....go for it!!:nilly:

i had the white moon sand and did not like it at all.. I ended up switching to PFS about a month later. For me the sand was too grainy and small. My african cichlids would end up sweeping it up and eventually the filter gets clogged. It did not look good over all being white. A lot of problems will be solved with giong with the black sand becuase it will hide the waste and everything else a lot better.
good luck

i used black blast sand instead. Only cost me $7 a 50 lb bag. It silica sand so it should be fine with them. the black blast sand is small, but sinks fast.

It is supposed to be 'rougher' than 3M from what I've read, but none of my cichlids ever showed redness on their bellies from digging. He's the best shot I have of mine (the red things are frozen bloodworms).
