Artemis1 - Anybody can say they are building a 10,000 gallon system. Until pictures are shown its all talk. The argument is the impulse purchases of these Sharks, first of which are not compatible, second of which one is already way to big for the tank it is in. It will probable few a few months atleast until the 10,000 is built and cycled if even and by that time the Black Tip will have out grown the system even more which will just be extremely un-ethical and crude.

So true. I'd be shocked if 1 in 100 actually make their 'planned' set ups.
Anyone who claims to be making a 10,000 or larger better have a great handle on a LOT more than writing a check for a shark. Speaking as someone who has made big set ups, it takes years to do. If you have the animal on site prior to building it, you've already messed up step one.

TunerX- You know what I was getting at. Seeing as I base most of my knowledge around elasmobranches you would be surprised how many people purchase Sharks simply based on looks and the ones which look the most "jaw" like. Seeing as the most aquarium friendly specimens are not the most "shark" like looking often inexperienced hobbiest go directly to such sharks as the Blacktip Reef becasue of its looks. Tis' which research is key before making any purchase.

I knew what you meant;) It just seems silly to even think about owning something when you don't have the means to house it. I would like to have a shark, its just that "jaws" sharks require way to much in terms of square footage.

I am gonna give the guy the benefit, that there is a 10K being built for him. Hopefully it has more footprint than height.

How much time would you have before the shark actually out grows the tank? Is it already too big for it? I have no clue to the growth rates of these things.

If his friend works as quick as johnptc, it would already be done.

I'll defer to Matt as the expert, but everything I have read about requiem sharks indicates they fair poorly in rectangular tanks, as they don't really understand the concept of corners.

Um. It's not Craig's fish so don't flame him. It's his friends'

At least he's going to a 10k tank, it's better than what most get(in captivity).

Yeah ok.. And, I swear those WMDs will be found any day now.

i hope you guys have noticed that the originator is gone. I always have my doubts about these "my friend, uncle, cousin" did something threads. Most of the time it is the person trying to keep themselves from being flamed by claiming it was somebody else who did it

Good point...As TFG once said,

Buy the tank- then the fish. Simply life's what happens when your making other plans.
