Considering the size of your tank it would take a lot more of course to maintain the look that you want.

As you do water changes the tannins get vacuumed off and you'll have to redose it.

Personally I like to treat mine every month. Both leaves and alder cones have great benefits!

Idk if thos vids were sposed to be links but they didnt work or do I plug em into google? N ya I didnt think aboit how much tannins I would need so maybe not Blackwater... just not crystal clear lol

View attachment 799957View attachment 799958wood will not release tannins for long. if you use peat, you had better pay very close to your water because it will effect your ph. peat must be changer frequently or the ph will rise again. I have wild discus in a "blackwater" tank without the blackwater. tannins are not harmful to any fish but are certainly not needed. blackwater is the location of certain fish and the waters are usually tannin rich. and no, you don't need carbon except for removing meds. carbon would also remove the tannins feom the wood or peat. you can also use the blackwater extract but with a large tank it would become expensive as you would have to replace it with each water change. here ia a pic of my tank. lost the tannins long ago even though there is a lot of wood.

YOU SIR HAVE A GORGEOUS SET UP!!! WOW!

ok so way off subject but goin back to the angelfish i asked about earlier.... im thinking 8 but i think they sold in singles or groups of 5 to get a small discount so maybe 10. idk and im also wondering about size, i have 2 2 1/2 inch oscars, a 7 or 8 inch plec, arowana and newly added sun or eclipse catfish... all bout 7 or 8. so wondering if i should get the smalls or mediums for the angels,,, the smalls are like nickle or penny size bodys, and the medeums are like snapple or sobe cap size... if that makes sense so what yall think

I would not mix oscars and arowanas with angels...

Angels are far less aggressive (both in personality and eating habits) and by comparison much slow growers. They will inevitably become food...

Idk ive had multipple friends wit that combo n it was jus fone and they had smaller tanks then me... N pluse they live with eatchother in the wild?
