bleekeri or polleni?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have 5 of them! Bleekeri not polleni! Only 1 I am unsure of. They are stressed, in with larger breeding cichlids! I would have to ask my breeder for more details on where they came from, etc.. but Bleekeri IS found in aquarium trade!

Yeah, actually no, you do not. You should really read the info provided in the links posted in this discussion. What you have are polleni, and with out some provenance back to the wild they would simply be an aquarium strain of same.

Hi group I recently was able to get this specimen, he is about 8 inches and always very intense black color. I have 3 questions, based in what you discussed is this in fact a Bleekeri?20191013_130306.jpg Why he have very few spots mainly concentrated in his front half? Will he be able to regain his spots , how, Thanks in advance

Polleni because they haven't been able to catch any bleekeri from the wild in a very very long time.

And what do you think about his spots, will he get them back? Or his almost full black color sign of his age, mean that maybe he is old?

The name Bleekeri is not valid, "all" bleekeri are either simply Paratilapia polleni "Bleeker, 1868, or one of the half dozen other species of Paratilapia.
It doesn't matter what a store or seller calls it, if they say bleekeri, it just means they are unaware of the nomenclature and science, or disregarding it.
Most sold in local fish stores are simply aquarium strain polleni.
If you go to a reputable seller like Dave'Rare fish, in the U.S.you will order either
Paratilapia sp Andapa
Paratilapia sp Marolambo Nosivolo River
or in Canada, Below Water
