I don't have a good quality camera so can't show photos, does anyone know if bloat is a large jutting bump at the abdomen or can look like overall thick/fat? It's a 5 inch bichir and it doesn't really have a bump, more so just very thick/fat, and it had a back end floating issue that went away after a day. It also had a red "arm" fin on a separate occasion near the base that went away after a few days. I assumed the fin may have been burned by the heater, bitten on by the other bichir, or scraped it on driftwood. Scales don't appear to be "pinecone". It used to eat like a pig but now it seems to be eating less than usual these days. Did 25% water changes twice weekly recently. All these happened on separate occasions, not all at once. Does anyone else have bichirs that eat less then usual and know if this could be bloat please?

Sounds like bloat. Especially with the one end floating up. Can't be all conincidence. Good thing it got better.

Would add some epsom salt 1 tsp per 5g. Get a photo up asap as u may need an antibiotic as bloat can be from infection. Especially if the epsom salt isn't working.

Thanks for your input, gonna order some epsom salt from amazon now. Do you know how to tell if the epsom salt is working? (an increase in feeding?)

Not really but sometimes gas/feces can be seen leaving the cloaca.

As long as it's acting alright feeding should be ok but try a photo so it can be seen.
