My 11'' common looks like he is bloated. Would putting some garlic extract onto a piece of cucumber help him eat it. I give my other pleco veggies all the time and he eats them straight away however I just got this 11'' pleco and have never seen it eat veggies.

Not sure, I did not think to ask. My other common eats veggies so I thought this one would to. All I have seen him eat since I have had him is Shrimp pellets.

He did have a poo about 7" long the other day.

Shrimp was the clincher for my Adonis. I fed him normal pleco foods like wafers, fresh veggies and seaweed, etc. Then I read Adonis are omnivores and give a small chunk of shrimp. Two weeks of battling bloat with salt, temps and fiber/peas failed. I'll never feed a pleco shrimp products again.

Check for more poo and make sure it's brown and not white, stringy or alive. There are multiple causes for bloat and parasites are one.

Are his plates standing apart, like dropsy? Or is it just his underbelly protruding?

Garlic extracts are to induce appetite. That's probably the last thing you want to do unless you are trying a medicated food. Stop all feeding until you get him cured, unless you want to try pushing the blockage (if it is) through with peas. Adding more and more food to an impaction could kill him.

Why would you feed him cucumber? It's not nutritious. Get those guys on zuchinni, man. It's loaded.

I have been feeding my pseudas shrimp products for years and never had a promblem. Planetcatfish articles list shrimp as their main food source. Of course pseudas are carnivores so maybe that is why I have not had any promblems. They will not touch veggies that is why I feed the NLS, it has a lot of vegtable matter in it.

That is really great. I am happy for situations where shrimp are a good source of food. I just had a random stroke of bad luck, I guess. And, the OP did mention the words 'pleco', 'shrimp', and 'bloat'. Since it pertained, I offered my experience. If my pleco were a carnivore, he'd probably be with me today. Heck, I don't even have proof that the shrimp was the cause. It just happened at the same time. Shrimp goes into fish, fish stops pooping, fish dies. Go fig.

Psuedacanthicus aren't Acanthicus. Critical point here, I suppose. But commons should be able to eat shrimp, from what I understand.

Did u feed him asparuguas?

Oh, crap! Epsom salt bath now! And Prazi-pro full dose! Also soak his peas in Prazi if you are trying the fiber-load approach. I'd advise against any food with that degree of distention, though.

He's pretty extreme. Try both and you might save him.
You know how to give him the bath? Use tank water in a separate (never seen soap) container, add 5 tbsp. per gallon and immerse the fish until he shows discomfort. Sometimes the fish will roll over from the salinity. If he does, get him back to the home tank. You won't need to acclimate because you are using the same water in both places except for the salt. Just plop him in and out by hand. And don't use nets! Barehand is best for plecos most of the time.
