So many nice fish have been dropping like flies. I'm sorry to hear that you lost it, but perhaps the effects of seafood could be spread to prevent future problems. Hang in there buddy.

It was big I don't think I will ever own another one after this
I knew from the min it took 4 big bits of mussel he would have problems

I don't know what it is about seafoods they can't handle but it's just not worth risking it
Some people say they feed it and they are fine but it only takes one time they can't digest it and this can happen

It does hurt but nothing lives for ever and it's the bad part of fish keeping when they die
In the past 2 years I have lost a few of my older fish
But we must move on or give up I'm not ready to give up so I will move on

Man, Its a shame to see someone loose such a wonderful fish.
If you still have the fish you could cut it open and try to figure what went wrong, since you have nothing to loose.

My sincere sympathies.

You do have an exceptionally strong case against the seafoods, which I never took lightly, you know, but this case again kicks it up a good notch. I wonder if this is all about (1) crustaceans and (2) shellfish and not about marine fish.

This also raises a big question over my thinking that this may be due to thiaminase because a relatively small, insignificant, short-term inclusion of shellfish in the overall steady and quality diet should not cause such dramatic consequence (and neither should salt, which is your thinking), unless, as I speculated earlier, tigs are particularly sensitive to thiaminase (or sea salt?)... while perhaps maybe tigs are allergic to something else in crustaceans and shellfish, kind of like some humans are.

I wonder if this reaction can be consistent with the symptoms of an allergic reaction, a major misfiring of an immune system.

It could be informative if a knowledgeable vet examined it.

So Sorry for your loss I've been there myself this week :(

He was one hell of a fish Richard, always admired him, they don't really come any better.

When you keep fish for as many years as we do there are high's and lows, unfortunately this is one of those "extra" bad lows, I'm sure you know what I mean by that.
Your attitude however is the very best example for all to see, we have our sad moments that sometimes last for many days, even weeks but do we give up.......NEVER!!

All the best!
