for me 20 to 35 gal is suitable for 2 parrot for one year... they are slow grower than the other cichlids, i dont think they are reach their size into 1 foot, mostly the full grow of them has only reach to 7, i have a friend that had 5 of them in 120gal for 3 years and till now they are just 7 inches.
I think a 55 gallon to 75 gallon. I have a huge BP and he is SO bulky. They get big. A lot of web sights say they need a 30 gallon but I TOTALLY disagree looking at my BP. They get big. They are not as messy but they need swimming room.
I also see plenty of misinformation about Oscars, also in the 30 to 40 gallon range. I'd be just as suspicious about BP/KKP as you should about Oscars.

Yeppers, it's sad. Yesterday I was at this guys house buying Cobolt Blue Lobsters (saw the add in kijiji) and he had two in a 30 gallon, really sad, not full gorwn but still.
Granted I've never seen a 12" blood parrot because most of them max out at 6-7" I'd say a 55 should be fine but I wouldn't even bother to keep one in a 30gallon at any stage of it's life. I have my 4 parrots in a 60breeder with a synspilumXparrot.
I would only recommend a 55gal if the fish is alone.
Our BP has gone from a 35 to a 55 and now in a 150 community. While he was in the 55 we has a small community tank and it was clear that it was not enough room.
He's now about 7" and 4-5 years old, thriving well in the big tank with some other BP buddies.
