That is a really a nice looking fish. That red is amazing! Though I agree killing all that you don't want for breeding is a bit extreme when you could at the very least give them away. Very cool. cant wait to see the pics.

well, update time, the fry are getting bigger and starting to move around a bit more out of mommies nest. i can see their bone structure now, really cool looking. still dont have my camera..im gonna have to kill my friend.
ok, update, fry are free swimming, but i caught susie, the mom, munchin on some. so i took her out, the babies found a hole in the divider and a lost a few, the rest are in a breeder box for the time being. tomorrow i will be getting a heater and putting them in a 10 gallon tank.
how agressive is the dad to litle fish i would probly be interested in a male 1 but i need one that won't eat my bug glowlights
my male texas is not very agressive, neither is my parrot, but they will eat small fish in a heart beat. need to be kept with fish of similar size, and these guys get 10+ inches.
i got three pics of the fry earlier today right before susie went nuts. i tried counting them a bit ago and it looks like i have over a hundred still!!! here are the pics. first one is of susie telling me to get away from her babies!
sure. ill keep pics up as they grow and if you want some let me know. im going to be leaving for a bout a week and a half, so the babies will kinda be on their own...they will be fed, but i wont be around to monitor them. so we will have to see how they do once i get back.
