O. lithobates or lithobates x fryeri hybrid.

so they are not one specific cichlid? kinda like a mut fish?

That would be the possibility. They are still too young to be either for sure.
I'm not sure if it's just the pic but from what I can make out there's a slight yellow or orange tinge to the very edge of the colored fish's dorsal fin. That would be a strike against S. fryeri or at least a pure one.
Time will tell what the fish is for sure.

those pics were taken right after they were put in the tank, so the full color wasnt back yet. i just went to double check and there is no yellow or orange visible on the dorsal. it is more of a baby or lighter blue. certain angles make it lighter or darker. i will try to get better photos tomorrow.

i know i started this thread a while ago, but i am still unsure of the sex and species of these two africans. the first two pictures are of the same fish. i think he is the male and the third pic includes the suspected female. these are the cichlids that i bought as hap. ahlis. could they be...or are they something else? thanks again!

They would be S. fryeri, not "Hap. ahli". Sciaenochromis ahli (Hap. ahli) is a different fish.
They don't look quite right for S. fryeri however. Possibly hybrids.
From the pictures, both male.

i think thats what you though last time too. i am not real great w/ IDing african cichlids. what makes you believe they are hybrids?

The first fish would be a better example of S. fryeri, but they're both highly questionable.
The second fish still has the 3 spots. Any real S. fryeri should not have 3 spots on the body. They both had them in your previous pictures.
They've commonly been crossed with O. lithobates and C. azureus, both of which do have the 3 spots on the body.
For S. fryeri the facial structure isn't right. The body too tall as well.

Here are pics of my Wc S fryeris.
wc dom male( date in the pics not right I need to reset the date..loll)
