come to think of it mine looks pretty black now, must be a different strain. I think I will say he's from Brazil and call it an Ebony Arowana. Anyone want him?? I'll sell it to ya cheap $1500.00

Only difference is the level of maturity, this is what makes for the color variants. They will all end up looking the same if you provide the same lighting.

The pics really show nothing but large adult blacks out of water and young black aros under water.

I had a pair of them before.

That is the problem with the internet, anyone can post up some information and other people will believe it....

Black arowana orignally came out of Brazil,,,,,,,they stopped exporting them around 2004-05, then,
Blue arowana started come out of Colombia and are a black arowana slight color varient and now classified as Osteoglossum cf. ferrerai-------( .cf meaning it's a varient)

The "cf." in "Genus cf. species" doesn't mean it is a variant. Cf. is an abbreviation for "compare to", so "Osteoglossum cf. ferrari" means it is a fish of the genus Osteoglossum, possibly O. ferrari or closely related to it.

this is his progressive growth. you can see he's been VERY black

That would be great except I fear they will look just like the black aros...oops I mean "colombian blues" we have right now.
