blue channel cat

according to your location, the outside temperature shouldn't be a problem for a channel cat! they are native to North America and as long as the water not frozen solid and there is enough air to breath, they will be fine!

Is the anal fin straight or rounded on your cat? It looks straight in the picture, which means you might actually have a true blue catfish (Ictalurus furcatus) on your hands rather than a channel cat (Ictalurus punctatus).

One of my favorite cats. My younger brother has one in his Koi pond. It is about 2' long. The can withstand freezes. You just need to have a hole open in the ice.

He won't grow as fast as some of the south american cats (ex: RTC, TSN, RTC x TSN), but he will get big quick, especially in warm water. Ours was kept in a tropical tank (220) so the water was good and warm. He went from about 3" to about 9" in 8 months. He died on us, unfortunately, but he would definitely have been a monster pretty quick. The pond plan is a good one! :)

hes grown that from about 3" to now almost 10" in a little under 3 months! water temp is sitting at about 75, and he's now in a 75 gallon tank while I begin plans for a pond.

I'll have to double check when I get home, but am pretty sure its rounded. Is there much of a difference between the blue catfish and the channel?
