BLUE EYE PLECO

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
$1500 is a fair price for blue eye panaque, congrats!

i wouldn't rush out and pay crazy money for a blue eye any time soon

their will be lots for sale over the next year and prices will crash

due to the places they are fish being accessible again

i think prices will drop to $400-600 soon :D

haha, the recent pricelist i got from colombia exporter directly is 500usd for a 10'', exclude freight.
so $1500 for retail is a fair price FOR THE MOMENT.
but you are right, there are more and more blue eyes these days, and they may drop to a more acceptable price next year.

I dont know if this is true, but a importer recently told me that they might ban on limit the ammount of blue eyes being exported next year. Like onlt 20 a year or so. That would totally wipe them out of the trade

L-137 is the Rusty Blue Eyed PLeco (hypostomus Soniae). The Panaque Cochliodon is the true very rare Pleco. Id love to get my hands on one! I have my L-137 for now still a pretty fish!

P.S. Get yourself some New Life Spectrum H20 Stable Algae wafers. I have 5 Bristlenose,a Vampire, and a Blue Eye who all love right before the lights out dropping 4-5 in they go nuts. along with there diet of my plants, driftwood, and my very generous frozen blood worms and spirolina brine shrimp. Plecos have a varied diet and should never be feed just one food there whole life. Best of luck! If you get tired of your blue eye hes always welcome in my tank. : )

I had a Blue Eye Panaque back in the day. I think I paid $19.99 for it. People called them the poor man's royal pleco :)

It lived in a 55g community of SA cichlids (geophagus and stuff) ...hung out on some driftwood... and lived for several years growing to nearly a foot. It died when it got its head stuck in a piece of driftwood and couldn't extract itself. Getting him out stressed him out and he died a couple weeks later.

Nice fish but more for bragging about having than the fish itself. Hopefully they'll be back to $20-30 soon!

I'd put some other fish in with it in a 75g. Maybe some barbs or not-too-aggressive cichlids. Once weekly water changes would be more than enough. They're not difficult to keep or sensitive.

Patat13 I'll never get tired of BLUEY :) . BLUEY is doing awesome in his tank. I do weekly 50 percent water changes. Its just him in the 75 gallon aquarium ( cause I think he loves having all the free space to roam and call his own ). I will never sell him. He is not only a rare specimen but a show male. BLUEY is family now :)
