As for how many will survive, that really depends on the parents, other fish in the tank and you. Are you hatching baby brine shrimp to feed them?

im new to breeding, right now they are feeding on zyclopene (sp?). they are doing well, bout to seperate them from the parents.

Awesome, I just had a BG spawn as well. I think they have been free swimming for a week now. I got to get my camera working and get some pics up. I have them in a 10 gallon, i would say about 200 fry. It was little moms first spawn, she is only about 3.5 inches and I reared the eggs myself(for the first time) I only had about 10 fry die so far so im pretty happy! I have only raised one batch of fry so far so will see how the second time around goes. It looks like my other breeding pairs are about to get at it again also!! What did you say you feed the fry?? I hatch and feed them live bbs and they have fat orange stomachs. I'll try to get some pics up soon.

here we go...
Heres little momma when she still had her eggs!

Wow nice!

When are you supposed to remove the fry? I know sooner or later the parents will turn on the fry (competitive exclusion), right?

I let my fish parent raise last time i had a batch and they were fine together. I took the fry out when they were about an inch. I dont know what would have happened if i left the fry in the tank but it didnt seem to bother the parents in any way. But it was also a 125 gallon tank and only about 100 fry survived. If there was more fry and a smaller tank, then maybe there would have been a problem?

Actually u CAN take the eggs out once the parents have laid the eggs together... u will lose some when u transfer them out.. but it does work.. I did the same thing with my first batch of FH frys and i still have about 100 or so eggs that hatched...

(The parents paired and mated in a 150gallon with Arowanas.... .so i had to remove the eggs...)

I took the eggs before they hatch and didnt lose any fry. Only 4 eggs out of all the eggs turned white and the rest all hatched.
