Wow doesn't anybody read a thread before they post something? He said all the fry got eaten by the parents... don't ask for updates, unless you want a pic of the parents' poop

My fry are still alive. They are 17 days freeswimming. I still cannot tell the blues from the rest though :(

Originally I was told that they are distinguishable around 6 weeks...

Since then I've bred several pairs (both BG x BG & Blue x BG) and have learned to read them much sooner. The differences are sublte though.

I find that I can often tell a fish is not going to be Blue... but often make mistakes thinking a non Blue fish is Blue. Non Blues tend to have more solid colors to their bars/striping. Blues tend to have a yellow'ish background as opposed to offwhite/tan.

Basically what I do is watch the brood and remove any that I am certain (convinced) are not going to be Blue and raise the rest...

Keep staring at the tank each day and you'll get better ;)

if i dont remove them right away, is there a danger of my blues dying? I do not mind waiting until 6 weeks to remove the non-blues but will try to if it is endangering my blues.

they normals and blue genes will pick on/eat on the blue jacks
because they are weaker and arnt really agressive either
hope you get blues :) do keep us updated :) with pics too

i can now start to tell which are blues. They have much thinner black bars and less black bars. I am going to start feeding the non blues to my angelfish and breeder jacks. I would put some pics up but you can tell the difference from the pics yet of the blues. I am gettting a nice new camera in a week so hopefully it will be able to take pics that will show the difference of the fish.
