Blue-green Tinge in Lungfish Aquarium

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just tested the water with some 5-in-1 Quick Dip test strips by Jungle.

Nitrates are way too high, so I'll be changing the water ASAP! There were no detectable nitrites, the water was very hard, the total alkalinity was moderate, and the pH was close to neutral.

The lungfish is still behaving normally and still has a hearty appetite.

Does that help with a diagnosis at all?

the nitrates are the cause of your green water, more frequent water changes will help, also how long do you leave your light on for. if the algea problem persists you may want to cut back on lighting, instead of turning light on in the morn and off when you go to bed mabey only have them for a few hours while your home to enjoy the tank. floating plant with also help, they shade the water retarding algea growth and use up some of those extra nitrates your having problems with
cheers

I don't have an overhead light for this aquarium. It gets all of it's light from the aquarium next to it, and that aquarium has the light on for 12 hours a day.

I do a 25% water change on a weekly basis, but I still get the same results...

Yep, its algae. More frequent water changes. Lungfish tend to dirty water quickly :grinno:
