I'm begining to think (my poor experience with this fish included) that these blue JD's have even more attitide variation than most cichlids I've kept (GT, JD, Salvini, FM, Tilapia). I've heard everything from chicken, pansy, wimpy EBJD's to mean tough as nails EBJD's so I think I'll use that $40 and buy some Krill and plants for my current fish and maybe set up a 55 later for a blue and some schooling fish to go with it.
Is 55 big enough for one EBJD? they'll only get 6-8" right? not 10" or so like the regular JD? What are your recommendations (everyone) for min tank size for 1 EBJD?![]()
dougefresh;787461; said:This is necessarily true at all......You just need a bigger tank to house them in...I have kept mine(7") with bigger oscars(was aggresive to), slightly smaller jags(was fine with), same size festaes(beat up the festae), and a slightly smaller JD......so you absolutely can keep them with bigger more aggresive cichlids.......
AquataHolic420;787870; said:Well obviously EBJD can coincide with regular JD's.... how do you think they are created? It obviously can happen.... but if he lost one EBJD already why have another 50$ risk?
Im saying generally EBJD are not as aggressive as other JDs, so its a risky investment...
dougefresh;787886; said:A EBJD can absolutely be as agro or more agro then a JD.....you said it yourself, how do you think they are created? it's a myth IMO that they aren't agro.....in my eyes its a color varient only.........
AquataHolic420;787892; said:Depends on the fish, they can be as aggressive, but generally they are not... IME they DEF are not... Mine was the nicest calmest fish ever... not aggressive. If they are just as aggressive why did HEadRush's one get merked by a reg JD and GT??
AquataHolic420;787254; said:IF u want to successfully keep EBJDs you need to have them be the most aggressive fish in the tank. NO SALVINI, NO GT or JD, especially if the EBJD is small in size.
EBJD are typically weaker fish, and not as aggressive as many other cichlid.s
If you want a EBJD to grow up and look nice keep him with eartheater cichlids, like Geophagus species, and other easy going fish.
Unless you are trying to breed and sell baby EBJD there is no need for the blue dempsey to be housed with a original jack D.
get rid of the GT/JD and get a couple of EBJD, or just keep what u have now, i wouldnt mix the two. But what do i know. my EBJD died at 5", but that was a few weeks after i added 2 JD's to try and breed the blues correctly.
AquataHolic420;787965; said:Like you said some are agro some aren't, but you saying as a fish in whole, all EBJD's are not agro is an incorrect statement.......Mine would tear his fish apart.....
Percieve it how u want, but i never said they as a whole are not aggressive, they are not aggressive as other Cichlids...EXACT WORDS
Also DOUGEFRESH how Agro was ur EBJD at one inch?
dougefresh;788018; said:I never had it at one inch so i couldn't tell you......look dude i'm not looking to bust balls i just don't like that people label this cichlid as a sissy fish that is a pushover compared to other cichlids....mine is mean as hell and i've seen others that were too, in fact i know a guy who had one in a 90 gallon with a JD and a O of the same size, that's all i'm trying to get across......
