Blue JD or not??

Sheesh! Chill out a little! Ebjds, like any other cichlids, will have individuals who are mean as hell and others who are laid back. With that disclaimer, ebjds are generally not as aggressive or tough as the regular variety. Individuals, of course, will vary. Breeders will typically try to cross male ebjds with female jds (and not the other way around) for that reason. The ebjd does not seem to appear in nature; it appears that the original discoverer hit a once in a lifetime longshot and happened to be present when a genetic mutation produced the first ebjd fry (which happened in captivity). The gene for ebjd appears to be recessive and is only expressed when the gene is present in both parents (they don't have to both be ebjd; the original fry came from two regular jd, each with the recessive gene).

 These guys were fighting like cichlids. :grinno: I could almost picture them liplocking....uuuhh.....I mean battling it out.

Anyway I appreciate all the replies...very entertaining read I must add. I leave the site for a few hours and missed it all.

Now back to the question i had = is 55 gallons enough for one EBJD? I had one reply that agrees it is, thank you DougEFresh

Anyone else have an opinion on minimum tank size???

trade your other fish in and get 2/3 ebjd instead.thats what i would do :naughty:
 :grinno:

Never. 3 of the same fish would bore me very quickly I think, plus IMO they've earned their keep in my tank :D

dude absolutely a EBJD for a 55, it will be happy.........I'm gonna put mine in my 55 when I clear it out and plant it then put some small cats, prolly corys, on the bottom.........

A 55g should be fine for a single ebjd.
