earth retard
Hi yesterday i went to a LFS and they had "blue lobster" (i know its a crayfish obviously) for sell for $18.00 for 2. They are about 2-3inches big but when i took a closer look at it it was brown all of them was brown so do they change to blue when they get bigger? I couldn't find the scientific name of that species either all they put was "blue lobster" and I didn't have my camera on me so i couldn't take any pics.:headbang2:headbang2

as adults when close to mating they tend to get red mixed in with them, and as baby's they are dark in colour almost black. The ones you saw could have been juvies

I dont think its an alleni it looks more like a brown yabbie but do brown yabbies become blue when they grow up?
I think there cherax and not procambrus (bad spelling)

if it was a procambrus alleni (bad spelling) i want to get it SOOOOOOOOOO BAD!! Can i put 2 in a 10 gallon tank provided with 2 hiding places? with a 30 gallon aquaclear filter. and what temperature does it like? And can i feed ADF food or betta food to it?

I think the Allenis look much better than the yabbies. And why does your location say you are an "Earth Retard" ??

in a 10g tank you would want a lot of hiding spots. i honestly would say 10g per crayfish. even then you still might wake up to see one eating the other. i have kept a lot of different crayfish and for the most part i kept them all in different tanks. crayfish will fight no matter what and the injuries are always major (missing claws, legs ect) yes of course they'll grow back but you will always have some beaten up looking crayfish.

as for temperature crayfish like it a little cooler then tropical fish. you can keep them at the same temp but warmer water will just make them moult more often and this you really dont want if you have more then one in the same tank.

crayfish will eat anything. i keep one in my feeder tank to eat any goldfish that die. they love algea waffers and silversides.
