blue spotted salamander

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lucky. I had to use 8 bricks to fill out my salamanders' enclosures... to make sure they get a good 6"-8" of substrate over a 8 squared foot of area.

Would plants be able to grow in this eco earth stuff? I wouldnt mind getting a few plants growing in there to make it look more "real"

man this guy really hides now! I guess he loves it! I guess I gotta research myself on plant growing in there!

I just thought I could always pot them in pots to haha. I was looking at black jungle and found 3 I like. No idea if they would work

Im not sure about the gold tips, but I like the Creeping fig as it would crawl over the wood and I could make a wood "lattuce" background that it could crawl all over. Anyone have any experience with any of those 3?

I think you should move your guy to a 10 gallon at least and use the first 2 plants, the fern and the club moss looking stuff. I think you might need more room to grow the creeping fig. Just my 2 cents.

The current footprint is way bigger than a 10gallon.

24.5" wide x 12.5" deep x 20.5 tall

My bad, I didn't see your video link. I though you were still keeping it in the hexagon tank.

Ya he is in a MUCH better place now. I never see it anymore :( Whatever makes it happy

Does anyone know if I could stick a LED in the corner of the tank like a blue LED to simulate a moon or something. I wouldnt mind seeing him out and about if he ever does at night when the lights are off.

Java Moss can work too if kept moist enough...

As far as plant go, I had one growing in my eco-earth for some reason; I didn't plant it either... it just popped a week after I added water. The salamanders destroyed it though.
