Put him in with two male and two female Standards that are just about the same size... they'll be able to tell you it's sex before I can. It's far easier to judge gender based on behavior than looks (with Blue Dempseys)...

But I call them all boys until they show me traits of being girls... as the vast majority I've raised have turned out to be boys... although I haven't been breeding them long enough to have had any of my spwans reach sexual maturity (or even close).

well i bought a 2" jd a few weeks ago and she s the same size very blue gills and the blue dempsey flaired his gills at her and then like they swim together now and everything i also had a bigger female and the one i bought a few weeks ago and her fought over the blue one and they stayed a trio for a bit then the bigger female just ended up swimming alone all the time .. ehh ill find out one time soon

Another seller told me that he plans to sell at $15 an inch, so for a six inch one he would be charging $90.
That'd be a bargain. At the present time there tends to be a high attrition rate. Add to that the deformities (which often aren't noticeable until they get to be around 4"), and the number of 5+" fish that have good configuration and color is quite small. The general market seems to be $25 for 2" fish at minimum. Putting all that together, the kind of specimens that nc_nutcase is talking about producing would be worth - A LOT! :headbang2

Nice looking pair they don't have the retarded look that alot of EBJDs have

OMG THAT IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PAIR I HAVE EVER SEEN!

do u happen to ship any of the frys that come out of these spawns??

I sorta have a question... I currently have a EBJD at 1.5" been almost 2 months since i got him and is doing well.. What i'm wondering is... are they ok with JD at 3"? So far i have not seen any aggression from the bigger fish and my EBJD has a companion a REGULAR JD at 1.5" as well..

I'm hoping he makes it through.. I lost one EBJD due to a stupid "sucked in canister filter incident" and EBJD as always cost an arm and leg ($22)

So many of you have heard me mention my Blue x Blue Dempsey ‘pair’… but have never seen pics. Someone finally bugged me enough to go snap a few. After 67 shots these are the only 3 worth sharing, which is why I don’t take many pics ;)

They spawn occasionally, though not every month. This female does not blacken up like the rest of the Blue females I’ve had spawn. If you want information on Blue Dempseys in general there are several other semi-recent threads loaded with info, I’m not retyping it :P

Oh, and they are in the fishroom so the tank isn't meant to be pretty. I still haven't decided where/how to 'display' them yet. But soon...

PS - The male is 7~7.5”…

These are the NICEST ONES I have seen yet!! The form throws out all the rest that i have seen!! Makes most all of the rest look retarded!!! NICE!

I don't have time right now to read your whole thread (A friend just sent me a link) but I have a question. I have heard that if you cross 2 blues you end up with all dead babies. Is that true? Have you raised the babies up to sellable size?
