Bn Pleco Wont eat his cucumber...Should i take it out?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I usually cut a cucumber/zucchini in half, then quarter each side...that usually lasts until the next time I go to the grocery store - giving them 1/8 of it each night.

Also, I sprinkled some wafers around it to lure them in at first. That seemed to help in addition to the ones jammed inside of it.

With cucumbers, they mostly just eat the seeds and around them. With zucchini, they'll eat everything but the skin. I'm trying romaine lettuce tonight for the first time. I nested it on the same fork as the zucchini, so we'll see what happens. I also have some broccoli that is starting to look a little old, so tomorrow I plan on cutting off the good parts and seeing if they eat any of that.

Common pleco's eating organic broccoli...they're so spoiled!

personally, i find that if you take the veggie, and place it in a microwave safe container with just a bit of water and blanch it, it softens up the veggie very fast. what i do is mic it for maybe 20 seconds. then ALWAYS cool it off in room temp water first. this will soften it making it more appealing as well as maintains the nutrients and makes it easier to digest for the fish

I;m going to try that

i freeze it because it keeps longer, and i also read somewhere that it lyses the cell walls (causing them to burst) therefore when i put it in the fishtank it gets soft enough to eat. works for me lol

Whats an op?

And just to let you guys know MISSION COMPLETE! lol I took all of your advice and i put the cucumber to freeze so it wont get bad and when i took it out it was sort of soft. the part that have already been cut was still looking fresh instead of how it looks when you just leave it in the fridge. i put it in a little cup with the least water possible but still enough. And put it in the microwave for about 50 seconds since it was frozen. It was pretty soft but not exaggerated i think it was perfect. I poured out the water from the cup and poured in some fish tank water to cool it off and help flush out some of the tap water I used. Stuck the knife in it and put it in the gravel. He came out wondering around and still wouldnt eat it i thought it didnt work and i was going to have to try again. Well i fell to sleep and the next morning when i woke up the seeds where gone and I could see the knife i stuck in the middle of the cucumber . But i guess i just didnt believe that he ate it so i thought maybe its just cause it was really soft and it ended up floating off. The day goes on and all of a sudden i see him on it! i had to leave my room real quick i come back and He's gone. the knife is there alone sticking out of the gravel (its plastic) and the cucumber is on the other end of the tank! lol and he went to go hide back in his castle now. So im pretty sure he has got the point that its food. I want to thank you guys for all the advice. Everyone Thanks! Also the tank was a mess after he moved the cucumber! and when i went to take it out my blue ram started attacking me again. That dude has some trust issues. lol so how often should i feed the BN everynight?

Nice! Try zucchini next time, I bet he'll devour the whole thing. Mine wasn't a fan of the romaine lettuce...they never touched it.
