From this view, it does look like the 'boatmobile' did intentionally cross paths with the bigger boat. That's like trying to stop a bus with a bicycle! Clearly, the boat's welfare was not their priority.

And I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on the value of life. I see humans as equal to animals, and you see humans as more valuable. The rest of our debate springs from these two platforms and neither of us are going to budge. For the record, I don't want anyone to die. Ever. But with death being dealt so freely in those waters, and my views about the equal value of all (except spiders') life, you can see how the scales might justly tip toward the killers once in awhile. Not by me, or anyone. I just want the death to stop. If a small flame is extinguished, the whole forest fire can be prevented. Again, nobody here is suggesting it would be okay to intentionally injure or kill anyone. That's just crazy talk.

I thank you for your service to our country and for doing what you believe is right to protect our freedom.

I wasn't going to say anything but dude you really need to not post in this thread anymore. You're way to emotionally invested into this and you're starting to say things that make the MFK community as a whole look bad b/c your extreamist views on the topic.

I as the OP to this thread would like you to stop posting here so the comversation can go on in a civil manner.

This also goes for all the other people on both sides. Please think before you speak when something (anything) is posted that you are very emotionally invested is brought up. You may end up saying something that could be offensive to others or that could potentially encriminate you in a manner that you're not ready to deal with.

Under power means the engine is running, for the record, they could have avoided the collision, it is called reverse. Fact is they were a good 30 feet clear of the boat until they eased up. Total stupidity.

So for the lubbers, under power=engine running, you could see propwash.

That's kind of funny that "reverse" would suggest putting the boat in reverse... :D It does make me wonder if you've ever run a boat...

A boat like the Ady Gill (Sp?) has a reverse gear for maneuvering in port, docking, et cetera - but they aren't designed to move backwards faster than idle. Boats with transoms are simply not made to move in reverse. This is even more true of a high-speed planing hull like that of this boat. Not to mention that a boat with fixed props and a rudder has very little directional control in reverse.

I took this picture of the stern of Earthrace. It's easy to see that this purpose-built racing boat was not designed to back up. :screwy:

All this said, the Ady Gil could have easily evaded the factory ship by going forward. They chose not to. It's really lucky that nobody was hurt or killed.

In an emergency Dan, and I would consider parking your speedboat in the path of a ship an emergency. They have to be able to back away or REVERSE in some form. But thanks for your insight and the pretty picture.:)
